THE Surgery

January 3, 2021
On the way to the dr’s.

In January, almost a year ago, I met with Dr. Satterwhite in SF. Don’t know who he is? Well he is going to perform my gender surgery. Gender surgery? Yes. It has gone by a variety of acronyms, none of which are without issue. Suffice it to say this is THE surgery. Yup, that one. THE one, lol. Still confused, well then maybe that’s for the best and we will leave it at that. The date that I chose for my procedure? June of 2024. At the time that gave me about 4.5 years to figure some things out:

1 – how I’d pay for it,
2 – electrolysis of the surgical site,
3 – how to quit smoking,
4 – some resolutions to a few relationship concerns.

Okay, so, along comes COVID 19 and sits down beside her and the world goes to all hell. However shitty a year it was, my surgery is now scheduled for June of 2022 though.

The first thing that happened was that my awesome electrologist and I began the lovely work of hair removal. For all of my extreme fears it is WAY more comfortable than having my face worked on.

The second thing that happened was that I remembered one of my good friends, who happens to be an old student of mine, has a boyfriend who does home refinancing. I may know math, but that does not mean I have always made the best financial decisions. But I love my friend and trust her immensely and figured that someone who she trusts would most likely be trustable by me as well. Turns out he was. He solved one of my most pressing concerns with a lovely job of getting my house refinanced. Turns out I’ve been working my little butt off for the last 15 years paying my mortgage and remodeling my house for a reason. Thank goodness! Thank you past me, I appreciate your hard work, lol!

The third thing is that for Christmas this year I finally gave myself the gift of choosing to not smoke. Today is day nine of no smoking after about thirty-seven years of smoking. Yes that means I started when I was 12. I am not using anything other than my will and my lovely wife’s help. It sucks. I wish I would have never started, yeah, yeah, whatever.

The fourth thing is that I think that Jodie finally got connected with a professional who is actually going to be able to help her. I won’t dive into details, but it looks super promising.

The fifth thing is that Dr. Satterwhite’s office reached out to touch base with me during November. It turns out they really wanted me to reschedule for June 2021. Um, wow, that was exciting, but no, that was way too soon. Electrolysis takes a long time and should really not be skimped on, regardless of what your surgeon tells you. But that is just my opinion.

Alrighty loves……. I know it took a year for me to fill you in on this info, but I did at least finally get around to it. And to everyone who thinks this was TMI, you didn’t need to read… lol!

Love you!

Love yourselves!

Hi Kelly, first good luck. I am seeking vaginoplasty at John Hopkins. Yeah, I know the bad history there, but thankfully that is over. My primary care is handle by their community physicians. I basically have my letters almost in hand. However, I need Medicare to pay, and they have yet to set the proper criteria for billing. They said that I could do everything up to seeing the surgeon until that would come about, They seemed optimistic that things would change if Biden got elected. I sent him a message on day two to ask him act. We shall see.

Anyway, your comment on the genital electrolysis gives me another perspective on how the procedure can go. I did find an experience electrolysis to do the work, and even got my father to agree to help with the costs. Thanks.

    All the best, Stephie (She/Her)
